![]() And things like airplay cannot stream high res. But they lack a Connect app which makes integrating into non-computer based systems a bit wonky. RE: Qobuz vs.Click to expand.Quboz is a small outfit in France run by actual audiophiles. Not sure what all this means, and I'm kinda running out of time because my Qobuz trial will be ending in a few days. But, I guess I could live with the Qobuz version if I didn't have the song available in 24/96 on my NAS. In this case, I preferred the version streaming off my NAS. Again, in 24/96, but it sounded different again. It was the same song from the set I purchased from HD Tracks. While it was playing on Qobuz, I grabbed the same song from my NAS. But not really a fair comparison, since the version on Qobuz was streaming 24/96. ![]() While I was listening to that, I went and grabbed the same song off Qobuz, and played it right after the Tidal version completed. I'm guessing that its mostly due to the differences in mixes.įor example, I was listening to a playlist on Tidal that included Billy Joel's "Allentown." It sounded like something was not quite right, and indeed it was streaming in 16/44.1 on Tidal. Spent some time critical listening last night. I'm sticking to Amazon HD because most of the music I've searched for is on that platform and it is affordable for the common man. I would say stick with Qobuz if you like it, whatever makes you happy. As opposed to what happened 20 years ago or so with them trying to stop this progression into streaming as a medium. This is all forward momentum movement into an area that will become big eventually and as the software is figured out it will be many players in the distribution space, and I don't think the record labels care because they'll just get multiple paychecks. Still to this day the best I've heard in my system was SACD.Īmazon HD is a no brainer for me since it is cheaper than Qobuz. I haven't compared the two directly but use Amazon HD daily since launch and find it decent enough for my needs, especially in high resolution. I've had Qobuz in the past and found the sound quality exceptional. Amazon HD - BSH 04:40:50 12/07/19Īmazon is still always resampled. Qobuz's pure black letters on a pure white background produces eyestrain very quickly, I find.Įdit: The last problem has been solved by discovering that I can run Qobuz through Audirvana. It's unfortunate given Amazon's significantly larger catalogue (particularly in a couple of areas I listen to regularly) and interface that is much easier on the eyes. I might be able to live with Amazon through the forgiving Audioengines but cannot tolerate it through the Macbook/Sennheisers and probably couldn't through my big rig either. ![]() Amazon HD in comparison is more dynamic (not a bad thing with the Audioengines) but is also more forward with pronounced leading edge transients and is grainier with a touch of glare. My impressions are that Qobuz has the better sound: it's smoother, more refined and relaxed, with a more natural tonality. I've been too busy to listen through my main - all tube - system yet. So I've had both of these on trial for the last couple of weeks and I've been listening through both my Sonos>iFi iPurifier>Modi Multibit>Audioengine A5+ system and my Macbook Pro with Sennheiser earbuds - with and without a Magni 2 amp.
